UPI Autopay: how it works, why you need it

Never miss a payment again. Understand UPI Autopay and eNACH in three minutes — how they work, and why they protect your credit score.

The easiest way to never miss a loan payment, a bill, or a subscription is to stop relying on memory altogether. That's what UPI Autopay does: you approve it once, and the right amount leaves your account automatically on the right date. Here's how it works and why it's worth setting up.

What UPI Autopay actually is

It's a standing permission — a "mandate" — that you give from your UPI app. You tell it: "Allow up to ₹3,000 to be collected on the 5th of each month for my LoanDidi repayment." On each due date, the payment happens on its own. eNACH is a similar mandate that works directly through your bank account; both achieve the same thing.

How the mandate works, step by step

  1. At loan disbursal, you're shown a mandate request: the amount cap, the frequency, and the dates.
  2. You approve it once with your UPI PIN.
  3. On each due date, the payment is auto-collected — you'll get a notification.
  4. You can pause or cancel the mandate any time from your UPI app's "Autopay" or "Mandates" section.

Is it safe?

  • There's a cap. Nothing above the amount you approved can ever be taken.
  • You're notified. Banks alert you before and after each auto-debit.
  • You stay in control. You can cancel the mandate whenever you like — it's your account, your rules.

Why you actually want it

A single missed EMI can cost you a late fee and a drop in your credit score. Autopay removes the human error entirely — no forgotten dates, no "I'll pay tomorrow" that becomes next week. For anyone juggling work and family, it's the quiet habit that protects your record without any effort.

"The best money habits are the ones you only set up once. Autopay is exactly that — switch it on, and your good record takes care of itself." — Didi

Just make sure the account you link keeps enough balance around the due date. Set a small reminder for a day before, and you'll never be caught out.
